I have always been a huge fan of seafood so when I created this recipe, I did not mind testing this recipe a few extra times to make sure I had the flavors just right! I think I could happily eat seafood almost every day.
Let’s take a second to talk about the flavors of this recipe. The flavor combination of chili powder, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper with Mrs. Dash Southwest Chipotle seasoning mix is so tasty! The flavor is almost smoky with a BBQ flavor and a hint of heat. Mrs.Dash seasonings have a variety of flavor combination, but the Southwest Chipotle seasoning mix is one of our favorites.
This super simple recipe is great for any time of year. Throw it on the grill in the summer or easily make it on the stove top. This savory meal is full of healthy fats for heart health and low in sodium all while being delicious and oh so satisfying.
Start by patting the salmon dry using paper towel. This is an important step because if the salmon has too much moisture, the seasonings will not stick well. If you are using a frozen fillet, I recommend letting it thaw in the refrigerator over night. I used frozen and I noticed that there was more moisture than if I bought a fresh fillet so keep that in mind when drying the salmon. For the seasoning, I mixed the seasonings in a small bowl first to mix it up well before sprinkling the mixture over the fillets. For the cayenne pepper I only used 1/8 tsp and that was a bit spicy for me but my husband liked it. I really only do a small shake of the cayenne. When you are ready to cook your fish remember that salmon does not take long to cook. With a saute pan heated to medium-high heat it only took about 3 minutes per side for mine but if you have a thicker fillet it may take longer.
